Impact of Title IX

On April, 7 2013 the Connecticut women's basketball team defeated Notre Dame to advance to the National Championship game. This game can be viewed on television and on the internet. The highlights and statistics can both be easily accessed online as well from this link http://scores.espn.go.com/ncw/recap?gameId=330970087. This type of coverage for women in sports would have been unheard of if it was not for the Title IX decision requiring colleges to provide equal funding for just as many varsity sports for women as there are for men. This paved the way for women becoming much more involved in athletics and women's athletics becoming more a part of mainstream America. This is such a breakthrough because sports had before this been almost completely dominated in society by the stereotype that they were only for men to participate in.
